Labrax is European sea bass. Maculatofasciatus: mixture of two Latin words, 'spotted' and 'banded.'
 
Common Names:
Spotted bay bass, spotties, spotted sand bass.
Identifying Characteristics:
High 3rd dorsal spine, many spots all over body. Colorful with colors ranging from gray, greens, tans. Bright oranges and yellows on underside of jaws and belly. Showing at times heavy vertical bands.

From Central California to Mexico.
