Ancient Greek 'sphyraena' means hammer fish. Latin 'argentea' means silvery.

Pacific barracuda, barracuda, California barracuda, barries.
Identifying Characteristics:
Long, thin fish with silvery sides. Mouths have sharp teeth. Backs are blue to brown. Tails are tan to brown.

Kodiak Island to Baja California.

Fast growing fish reaching to 40 inches.
